Job Summary

To independently examine and evaluate the financial, operational, and administrative activities of the Co-operative Society, ensuring compliance with applicable Co-operative Acts, Rules, By-laws, and statutory requirements, and safeguarding members’ interests.

Job Responsibilities

Audit & Assurance:
• Conduct periodic internal audits of accounts, transactions, and records.
• Verify cash, bank balances, fixed assets, inventories, loans, advances, and investments.
• Review income and expenditure for accuracy and authorization.
• Ensure proper maintenance of books of accounts and supporting documents.

Compliance & Governance:
• Ensure compliance with Co-operative Societies Act, Rules, By-laws, and Registrar’s directives.
• Review adherence to policies approved by the Managing Committee.
• Verify statutory payments, returns, and filings.

Risk Management & Internal Controls:
• Evaluate internal control systems and identify risks and irregularities.
• Recommend corrective and preventive measures.
• Monitor implementation of audit observations.

Reporting:
• Prepare detailed audit reports with findings and recommendations.
• Present reports to the Managing Committee / Audit Committee.
• Maintain audit documentation and working papers.

Advisory Role:
• Guide management on financial discipline and best practices.
• Assist during statutory or external audits.
• Support fraud detection and investigation when required.

Qualifications and Skills

Educational Qualification:
• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CA / CMA / CS / M.Com preferred.

Experience:
• Relevant experience in internal audit, preferably in Co-operative Societies or financial institutions.

Skills & Competencies:
• Knowledge of accounting principles and audit standards.
• Understanding of Co-operative laws and regulations.
• High integrity and attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software.
